Avery has has dark brown curly hair that he usually ends up leaving a mess. Sometimes he'll try to fix it to make it look nice, but then other days he completely gives up and lets it do whatever it wants. He also wears hats a lot as an excuse to not fix his hair, which he would never admit is true. Avery also usually has facial hair, which he has because he thinks it makes him look better but also because he's lazy. He also has an eyebrow scar on his left eyebrow. He got the scar when he was younger. Avery is also very tall, standing at six foot three inches. He's become used to towering over most people he knows and meets. Because of this, he sometimes ends up crouching down to be at a closer height to others or he'll lean against sometimes to make him closer to eye level with whoever he's talking to. He sometimes hates being so much taller than others, so it makes him feel better to make himself a bit shorter. |
Personality |
---|
Avery is an enigma. He often confuses people by the way he acts because he always seems to show a new side of himself. When he first meets people, he usually comes off seeming like an asshole who couldn't care less about other people. This is somewhat true as he does have a tendency to not care for others, but usually those people are ones who have wronged him in the past or are just complete jerks to him. He also usually gives off the attitude of not caring about others so people won't get too close to him. He prefers to have his space and be on his own, so other people in his life would get in the way of that. Although Avery is usually closed off towards everyone he meets, he can sometimes slowly open himself up towards people he gets close to. Even then, he's not necessarily the most kind and friendly individual, but he's far better than before. With his really close friends, he is usually very trustworthy as they know they can tell him just about anything. He may act like he doesn't actually care, but he usually ends up showing in some form or another how he does care about them. He's secretly a very caring individual, although people never realize this about him. |
History |

Avery was born to Elijah Dalton and Talia Poletti who had been married for a year. Neither had wanted to change their last name, and instead decided to hyphenate their names together for their son. Two years later, they had their second child, Emma. Three years after their second child, they had their third child, Asher. Talia always wanted to have another child, but Elijah convinced her that three was enough for them. She would constantly try to convince him to have a fourth child, but he would constantly say no to her. Talia and Elijah were both constantly working in order to provide for their children, so Talia's parents often took care of the children after school. Talia worked as a social worker in the area while Elijah worked as a sports journalist. Although Avery was born about a year after his parent's wedding, his father began having an affair with a coworker of his soon after Avery's birth. He secretly wanted to avoid staying at home and taking care of the newborn baby, so he made up constant excuses of having to work late at the agency. In reality, he was busy messing around with his coworker. Avery's mother never had any idea of this for many years, but suspected he wasn't always working. Because Elijah was rarely home, Avery never really grew up close to his father. He always tried to spend time with his dad when he was home, but Elijah would tell Avery to go do something else and to stop bothering him. When Avery was ten years old, his mother finally found out about his father's affair. As soon she found out, everything in the Dalton-Poletti household went to shit. Avery and his siblings constantly heard their parents yelling and arguing with each other night after night. After a few long nights of fighting, Talia finally kicked Elijah out of the house. Avery never said anything about any of what happened and usually kept anything he felt to himself. His younger brother, who was only five at the time, kept asking about where their dad was and when he was coming back. He would constantly ask Avery about it too, and Avery would just ignore him and find something else to do. In about a year, Avery's parents' divorce was official and complete, and Elijah left them completely. He would send in money to help pay the bills, but for the most part the family was left on their own. During high school, Avery tried to be like any other normal teenager. He decided to try out for the football team, but not because he actually enjoyed the sport. He honestly cared very little for football, but he remembered that his dad had always loved the sport. Part of Avery wanted to somehow have his father in his life, and he thought that by playing football he could somehow get close to his father again. High school was mostly just Avery trying to somehow win his father's attention. His father was excited at first when he found out about Avery playing football and decided to attend a few games, but Avery wasn't really the best and rarely played, so his father stopped caring. Avery tried playing a few other sports, but he still wasn't ever really good at them. He gave up on the whole sports thing halfway through his eleventh grade year as he realized it wasn't helping to mend his relationship with his father. Still, Avery tried to get to know his father more and more, but nothing ever seemed to work. At the start of his senior year of high school, he completely wrote off his father and gave up on him. His eleventh grade year, Avery started working at the Montero Cafe which was nearby his family's apartment. It was a nice place to work and within walking distance, so he was fine having to work there. He also was able to afford to buy an older used car, which he still drives to this day. Avery also got the job to help pay the bills at home, although his mother told him that he never had to do that. He still decided to because he wanted to help, and he knew it was probably hard work to be a single mom with three kids. After a while, Avery started to hate working at the Montero Cafe as it just wasn't a job meant for him. He started searching for a new job, but could never find one. His senior year, he got a job at the gift shop at the Barfield Zoo, where he worked for a few years. Avery's senior year was nothing special or exciting. He mostly started to slack in his classes and give up on everything he was doing. He had stopped caring about school his junior year, but he knew he had to graduate. His mom would be disappointed in him if he didn't graduate, so he decided to stay in school for her. However, Avery often cut classes to go do anything else but school. He would often sneak off with a few friends to go find something to do in Montero or even Blackwood Mountain where they knew no one would recognize them. Avery and his friends spent a lot of time at the Amarak Montagnes National Park and most of that time was spent drinking and smoking. One night he got home late from hanging out with his friends and his mom started to lecture him about everything he was doing wrong in his life. He mostly ignored her, but sat there and pretended to pay attention. When she mentioned that he was failing some of his classes and that his guidance counselor was worried he might not graduate, he still didn't care. As soon as she said the words 'I'm disappointed in you,' he suddenly seemed to start caring. The last thing he ever wanted to do was disappoint his mother, so he started to try and bring his grades back up. He was able to graduate, but did fail two of his classes that year. Luckily, they weren't important in whether he would graduate or not. The summer after Avery's high school graduation, his father told Avery and his siblings that he was getting married again. They were all invited to the wedding which Avery decided to skip. His sister and brother both went and told him how their father was sad that Avery hadn't attended. Avery didn't care though and still doesn't regret his decision. He found out a few months later that his father's new wife, who he might as well call his step-mother but probably never will, was pregnant and had a daughter. Avery was once again invited to come to the hospital to meet his step-mother and half-sister. At first, he was once again going to decline, but his younger siblings convinced him to go with them. He's since seen his father and new family only a couple times, which is fine by him. He doesn't need to see them anymore than he has to. After graduation, Avery decided he no longer wanted to attend the University of Barfield. His mom was angry about this because he had already been accepted and that not attending would be stupid. He told her that he would just take one year off to think about what he wanted to do. Talia still believed that it would be a mistake for him to do that and said he could just go to college with an open major. He didn't need to think of what he wanted to do just yet. Nevertheless, Avery decided to take a year off from school. His mom kept bothering him about this all the time, so he decided to move out and live in an apartment with his boyfriend. At first, all was going well for Avery. He still had a job and was doing just fine without having to worry about a lot of things. That all changed when after six months Avery and his boyfriend broke up and Avery moved back home. Avery was just glad that his mom was done lecturing him about taking a gap year and seemed to be fine with it now. A year later, Avery started to attend the University of Barfield. His first semester there he was still uncertain of what he wanted to major in and took a bunch of random classes. His second semester, he still was uncertain but after taking a few other classes, he decided that he should major in criminology. His mother was surprised that he was pursuing the same degree that she did in college, but told him that she could help if he ever needed it. He told her he'd think about it. The summer after his first year of college, he began working at the front desk at the Panorama Hotel & Spa. The pay was much better than his previous job which was the main reason he took the job. It also came with nice hours that worked well with his classes. |
Family |
---|
Elijah Dalton is Avery's dad. His dad was rarely ever around in the household as he tended to always be out working late. It came to no surprise when Avery's mom found out that Elijah was cheating on her with his co-worker. They had been having an affair since almost Avery's birth and they had never been caught until Avery was around ten years old. After being caught, Elijah left to go live somewhere else. Ever since, Avery has rarely seen his father. It's no bother to him as Elijah was rarely around anyway. He still sends in checks to Talia to take care of the kids' expenses - mostly for Avery's younger brother Asher who is still a minor. Avery has talked to Elijah a bit since he left, but each time it gets more and more awkward. Avery never knows what to say to his father and would prefer to just not talk to him at all. Elijah has talked a bit about coming to visit and see his children, but Avery would rather that he just not do that at all. Talia Poletti is Avery's mom. She was also rarely home as she spent most of her time working - unlike her husband. After finding out about her husband's cheating, she kicked him out of the house almost immediately and told him to leave her alone. Almost immediately after the divorce, Talia began dating and bringing home new guys all the time. None of the guys were bad people, but Talia just had commitment issues ever since her divorce so her new boyfriends rarely stayed around for too long. As Avery grew older, he began to tell his mom he would get a job to help pay the bills. Talia told him that he didn't have to do that, but he told her that he wanted to. After Avery graduated high school and decided to take a gap year, Talia was a bit annoyed and upset with him. She wanted him to immediately go into college and graduate faster, but he told her that he needed a year to think of what he wanted to do. Avery and his mom do get along well and he's definitely a momma's boy. They argue sometimes, but for the most part they have a great relationship. Emma Dalton-Poletti is Avery's younger sister. The two were somewhat close when they were young, although they did constantly argue with each other - mostly over trivial childish stuff. After their parents' divorce, Emma and Avery mostly kept to themselves and never talked to anyone about how they felt. They both seemed to agree that their younger, confused brother was annoying with how he was constantly trying to find out what happened. As Emma and Avery got older, they still remained rather close. After Avery graduated and moved out, he would often come back to visit Emma, along with the others in his family, and spend most of his time with her. Asher Dalton-Poletti is Avery's younger brother. They were never really close as children especially because of the five year age difference. Avery just always felt that he was older and more mature than Asher, which was totally true. He felt that they had nothing in common and that his brother was annoying and whiny. He spent most of his time avoiding his brother and trying to ignore him. Once Asher was about fifteen, he started to try and act like his older brother. He hoped that this would help them have a good relationship together. Avery didn't realize it at first, but after a few months, he realized Asher was acting the same way Avery had in high school when it came to him trying to please his father. Avery started trying to spend more time with Asher and the two have grown closer since then. Makenna Dalton is Avery's younger half-sister. She was born about a month after Avery's birthday and is also eighteen years younger than him. He's seen her a couple of times. He also has seen her more than Charlotte because Avery's sister Emma often babysits Makenna. She loves getting to know her new family and will spend more time with them than Avery or Asher. Avery was once visiting his family and Emma left him in charge of Makenna. He wouldn't tell anyone, but he loved babysitting her. Charlotte Dalton is Avery's step-mother. He's only met her about five times which is five times too many for Avery. Charlotte seems like an alright and nice person, but Avery still wants nothing to do with his father, so he'll have nothing to do with Charlotte. Charlotte is also only two years older than Avery and he can clearly remember seeing her in the high school hallways, which really makes things awkward when he remembers that she's technically his step-mom. |
